Self-Realization

Once I read Napoleon Hill and realized the importance of knowledge my obsession with materials was replaced with a burning desire to know everything. I would become anxious just going into the library becoming overwhelmed with the endless amount of information that surrounded me. At first I was reading books without real depth to them like “Go ask Alice”. I wasn’t really reading anything with real substance and getting bored with teen angst novels the schools were shoving down our throats like “Cut” and so and so is sad. I was getting burned out.

That’s when salvation came to me not in the form of a book but in the form of a movie. The movie was called Zeitgeist. Zeitgeist is about how the world consists of controlled events while encouraging the viewer to think for themselves and come up with their own conclusion. This movie made me re-evaluate everything I believed and the philosophies I held closest to my heart. After watching it, I challenged conventional wisdom with every thought and action. I was filled with rage but more importantly a sense of self-realization.

After the initial shock and anger faded I realized the least I could do was get informed. I started reading everything I could. I read Orwell’s “1984” and his fairy story “Animal Farm”. I found myself getting into dystopian novels because I saw them as a warning of what my government could do and would do if we give them the chance. I started reading Chomsky and adopted social libertarian principles. I enjoyed everything from history and the occult to conspiracies and lucid dreaming. I soaked this stuff up like a sponge and informed myself of things I would otherwise be ignorant of. In realizing my ignorance I discovered philosophy. During my search for knowledge and enlightenment; I ponder what I call the stoner paradoxes. Am I dreaming? Am I alive? Am I dead? Usually these thoughts just come and go but sometimes when they linger there is this feeling of oneness. It’s a contradicting feeling of anxiety and euphoria. This is an emotion that can only be explained as spiritual. Keep in mind this is not drug induced but produced from the thoughts in my head.

All the books I read seem to give me a better look at the bigger picture of things. They all correspond with events in my life in a synchronistic fashion. As diverse as the subjects were they seem to connect. Philosophies and conspiracies, are seemingly contradicting interests, which have the common goal of seeking the truth. I think that’s the reason I read so much is to seek and find the truth. Ignorance is slavery and knowledge is freedom or as Francis Bacon said:

“Knowledge is Power”
